Ayurveda is world’s oldest surviving medical system. The origin of Ayurved, can however be traced back to more than 5,000 years. It is indeed a living testimony to India’s glorious past. The term “Ayurveda” is actually a combination of two Sanskrit words – ayur (meaning life) and veda (meaning wisdom or knowledge). Thus, Ayurveda in totality means “the science of life” and for centuries, it has been true to its title. The reason for its everlasting significance lies in its simplicity.
Ayurveda stresses a balance of three elemental substances (doṣa दोष), analogous to classical humorism: Vāyu / vāta (air & space – “wind”), pitta (fire & water – “bile”) and kapha (water & earth – “phlegm”). One ayurvedic theory asserts that each human possesses a unique combination of doṣas that define that person’s temperament and characteristics.
Ayurveda is not only a system of medicine, but also a way of living.
Ayurveda is a holistic and natural medicine that causes no side-effects and has many side-benefits. It is a system of prevention oriented natural health care that focuses on restoring balance at the deepest level of the mind and body. It treats everyone as an individual and treats the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health of the individual. The goal of Ayurveda is to become healthy, happy, and live a life of full potential.
